George William Colgrove - Obituary

George William Colgrove, 91, of Shelley, passed away January 10, 2009, at his son’s home of causes incident to age. He was under the care of Idaho Home Health & Hospice.

He was born January 15, 1917, in Eureka, Montana, to William Franklin Colgrove and Verna May Aitken Colgrove, the last of ten children. He grew up and attended schools in Nebraska. He served our country during World War II in the Navy aboard the minesweeper USS Requisite, and also in the Wyoming National Guard, and the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Robinson, Nebraska.

He married Pearl Louise Van Winkle December 20, 1939, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple in July, 1955. They made their home in Scottsbluff until 1990, when they moved to Idaho Falls. The majority of his work life was spent for Great Western Sugar Company in Nebraska. He was known as a "fix it man" for family and friends and liked to work on 'inventions' to make tasks easier. He was well known for his teasing and sense of humor.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various callings throughout his life – the one he loved the most was the Nursery because he loved little children. George and Pearl faithfully served "Meals On Wheels" for 10 years. He most recently served a mission to the Idaho Falls Family History Center.

30 Grandchildren; 27 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, Larry LeRay Colgrove and Roger Gene Colgrove, and all his siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Shelley LDS Jameston Ward, 1101 East 1250 North, Shelley. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

Peal Louise Van Winkle Colgove- Obituary

Pearl Louise Van Winkle Colgrove, 81, of Idaho Falls, died February 9, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was born July 19, 1920, at Minatare, Nebraska, to Charlie Loucie Van Winkle and Grace Cox Van Winkle. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska.

She married George William Colgrove December 20, 1939, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple in July, 1955. They made their home in Scottsbluff until 1990, when they moved to Idaho Falls. She has been a homemaker, wife, and mother.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in the Presidencies of Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women. She and her husband faithfully served “Meals On Wheels” for 10 years. She enjoyed family history work, crocheting, and visiting with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Roger Gene Colgrove, and three brothers.

Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon Friday, February 15, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 9th Ward, 395 - 2nd Street, with Bishop Larry Campbell officiating.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church.
